About Us

The Math Open at Andover (MOAA) is an annual mathematics competition for middle school students organized and run entirely by students at Phillips Academy Andover. Founded by Justin Chang ’19 and Andy Xu ’19, the first MOAA invited 130 students from across the world to the Andover, MA campus in October 2018. MOAA 2019 was a similar success, with 28 teams and 146 total competitors. In 2020 and 2021, MOAA was completely virtual, before offering both in-person and virtual options in 2022.


2026 Tournament Directors


Eddie is a Senior at Phillips Academy and serves as the Director of Registration. Besides math, he enjoys tennis, physics, and swimming.
Eugenia is a Senior at Phillips Academy and serves as the Director of Registration. Other than math, she enjoys dance, reading, and mock trial.
Bill is a Senior at Phillips Academy and serves as the Webmaster. He also enjoys computer science, drawing, and playing frisbee.
Niki is a Senior at Phillips Academy and serves as the Director of Outreach. She adores chemistry and physics, and in her free time, she likes reading, knitting, and working on her LEGO city with her younger brother.
Paige is a Senior at Phillips Academy and serves as the Director of Problem Writing. Besides math, she enjoys tennis and hanging out with her friends.

Ellie is a Upper at Phillips Academy and serves as the Registration Associate. She enjoys exploring physics, computer science, and music outside of math.
Sophia is a Lower at Phillips Academy and serves as the Associate Webmaster. In addition to math, she enjoys painting, dancing, programming, sleeping, eating, and walking her cat and dog.
Alice is an Upper at Phillips Academy and serves as an Outreach Associate. In addition to math, she enjoys crocheting and listening to music.
Kaylee is an Upper at Phillips Academy and serves as an Outreach Associate. Outside of math, she enjoys drawing, dancing, and listening to music.
Oliver is an Upper at Phillips Academy and serves as an Associate Problem Writer. Besides math, he enjoys physics, piano, tennis & squash, and spinning poi.
Yoll is a senior at Phillips Academy and serves as an Associate Problem Writer. Aside from math, he enjoys k-pop, debate and spamming discord servers
Carolyn is an Upper at Phillips Academy Andover and serves an Associate Problem Writer. Outside of math, she likes listening to music and playing the NYT games.
Ishan is a Lower at Phillips Academy and serves as an Associate Problem Writer. Besides math, he enjoys squash and hanging out with his friends.
